McCallum Disability Services merged with Murdoch Community Services in February 2012. Murdoch Community Services is based in St Arnaud and is an experienced provider of disability support to people in St. Arnaud in North West Victoria and the surrounding districts (servicing the Northern Grampians Shire, Loddon and Mallee regions).
The services offered by Murdoch in St Arnaud include supported employment programs, facility-based respite, Outreach-delivery of individualised programs and Community Connections( Day Services) as well as the delivery of individualised support packages.
State Programs:
Community Connections The Community Connections Program provides day program activities which have been identified during the person-centred planning process. Many people enjoy sessions involving literacy, craft, exercise, music, gardening, cooking, any of which may take place out in the community. They also enjoy excursions to places of interest in St. Arnaud and beyond.
Respite
Respite Services provides short term placement for people with disabilities living at home. The primary objective of the service is to support volunteer caregivers whilst providing a positive experience for the person with a disability. Respite Services are available seven days per week, with bookings rostered on a six week cycle. Weekend respite alternates between all adult clients (18 years and older) and all children (6 years to 17 years). The Respite House can accommodate up to four people, and night time support is provided by staff.
Pre and Post Program Support
The aim of Pre and Post Program Support is to provide people with a convenient place to stay whilst waiting for their program to begin or for transport home. It is available weekdays from 7am to 9am and 3pm to 5pm.
Outreach Services
Support services are provided either in the client’s home or in the community, and are based on the client’s individual requirements. Support may be short or long term or ongoing in duration. The Outreach program allows clients to live independently in the local community, by ensuring that each client is provided with support to achieve identified goals and assistance to make community connections. Support is provided regularly at times in the week which suit the client. This creates a routine which may, in itself, be of benefit.
Individualised Support
A support package provides individually tailored support, giving people with a disability more chances and greater control over their lives and opportunities. With the help of a “planner”, people with disabilities, their family and friends, develop a plan which will allow the established goals to become feasible. The plan may involve government - funded support and also wider, more community-oriented options. Each support session is focused on achieving the next small step towards the goals which have been agreed with the client and his/her significant others.
Business Services:
Laundromat
St. Arnaud Laundromat offers washing and drying facilities for the public seven days per week. From Monday to Friday, the laundry service provides washing, drying, and ironing services plus pick up and delivery, if required.
Garden and Contracting Services
St. Arnaud Garden and Contracting Services offer mowing, weeding, block clearing and general gardening services. Other business units cover car washing, commercial and domestic cleaning and tree planting. Other contracted work could be carried out by agreement if deemed suitable.
